Thanks guys! I turned 33 yesterday.
Lets just say it will be one to remember!
Happened in 4th gear at 135mph. I'd say there was a little B'Day luck involved here!

What happened? -bg
Don't know. Something inside the motor broke and shot oil all over the rear tire and and my GF, who was about a 1/4 mile behind me. Could have been nasty!
I'm not gonna have a chance to tear into it until sometime next week. Fingers are crossed that the block is salvageable.

Huge B-day bummer Dogo......very sorry to hear that :( I'm glad you walked away tho. I had the same type of thing happen at similiar speeds on my 86 Ninja 1000R, and I also walked away. Lucky days for both of us What was the mileage on your 14? And any internal engine mods? I'm turboing the exact same color/year of bike.....I'm just a little nervous now I hope it wasn't a rod bearing...I've heard of a couple doing that. Any warning before she let go?

Damn Dogo, that just makes me sick to look at. In that 4th picture it looks like the oil filter is malformed and the header looks like it has scrape marks. Maybe you just punched a hole in the filter?????? Or at least I can hope that is all it is for you. With all the oil on the rear tire I'm just glad you didn't go down.

Bike has about 15k on it. The motor has never been opened up. Only wheelies it's ever done are power wheelies, so never beyond 30 degrees or for very long.
Only warning was a second of chatter, then two puffs of smoke and a bang (inside the motor like something broke), then came the oil. If I had to guess right now, I'd guess it spun that infamous #3 rod bearing.
I didn't punch a whole in the filter. Still haven't found where all of the oil came from, but I also haven't even pulled the fairings off yet. Really don't wanna dig into it until I have the time to really dig into it, and that's lookin' like Weds.
I'm not too bummed. I've been wanting to have the motor bored and stroked... atleast now I have a good reason. And I still have the zx10 to ride until the 14 is all fixed up.

Sorry to here about your B-Day ride (that Sucks). Nice job keeping her up (135 wow). Lots of kits to choose from, ranging from 1451, 1534, 1570 and the monster 1581. Whatcha gonna do?

Good man, Dog. Take a crappy situation and build it into something better than it was to begin. Good spirit. Glad you got the ZX-10 to keep you rolling. Bike work is all a part of the game. You ride hard, your gonna do some wrenching some time. If you needed a 14 and you lived closer, I'd let you borrow mine.
BTW, thank you so much for the suggestion of the BTO16's. I love them.

Confidence inspiring ain't they?!?!!!
I've got a brand new set sittin' here for the zx14... not gonna need them anytime soon.. well maybe not... the dealer my buddy bought his '08 zx10r from has a green '09 zx14 sittin' on the floor that I can't stop thinking about. I dunno... '06 blue might get parted out and replaced with '09 green... what to do, what do do! If that's the hardest decision I have to make all week, I think I'm doin' alright though!

Don't know how a couldn't see it before pulling the fairings. It's damn near the size of a fist!
Think it's rebulidable? LOL
Who needs parts? I need to offset some of the costs of a new green beast!

I was going to say happy B-day...........now have to say I am sorry to see this.
After all, happy birthday again..........yer lucky she did not spew you off the road, at that speed, with all the oil.
You may need a new motor there.

Thanks Steven.
It was one of the situations where for everything that went wrong, everything went right!
The new motor is gonna come wrapped in a brand new 2009 green package. I'm waiting for the salesman, that sold my buddy the zx10r a couple weeks ago, to get back to me with an OTD price. Should I show him the pics and ask for a brand loyalty discount?

Man, your not kidding!!! Those really hurt to see!!! But of course the bike and/or motor can be replaced. Just glad you didn't go down with it.
I might need your IC igniter if your going to part her out. My luck it's probably the ICU though.

Yep, I'm parting her out. Everything but the performance parts that will work on a new one are for sale.
Shoot me a PM for whatever you want.

OOOOOOyy-youch! That is a rod bearing I'm looking at but that is #4, no? Not the infamous #3? Good luck with the '09 deal. If you're going the new bike route, this couldn't have happened at a better time. It'll be an awesome bd present.
